Armenian Soldier Aren Aramyan, Returned from Azerbaijani Captivity, to be Released

Armenian soldier Aren Aramyan, who was returned from Azerbaijani captivity on November 26, will be released. This information was shared by Aramyan's lawyer Ara Karapetyan on his Facebook page.

It is noteworthy that Aren Aramyan has been charged under the third part of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (Violation of rules for combat duty or combat service that has resulted in serious consequences). “The court rejected the investigator's request to extend the detention period of Aren Aramyan. The former prisoner of war and soldier who fought for the homeland will be released on February 6. This important decision was made by Judge Davit Arghamanyan,” wrote the lawyer.

Recall that after being captured, Aramyan was transported by helicopter from Ganja to a hospital in Baku for surgery due to his serious condition, and after being repatriated on November 26, he was transferred to Muratsan Hospital. After receiving treatment for 10 days, Aramyan was detained.

During his time in the hospital, Aramyan was interrogated as a victim. On December 6, he was arrested within the framework of a criminal case being investigated by the Investigative Committee, after which the prosecuting body filed charges and requested his detention, which was granted by Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction Judge Davit Arghamanyan.

On November 26, it was reported that Azerbaijan had transferred two prisoners to Armenia, one of whom was Aren Aramyan. He had been captured during the battles of November 16.

It should be noted that Aren Aramyan participated in the Four-Day War, as well as the July 2020 battles and the 44-day war. His defense attorney stated that Aramyan's command had recommended him for a state award following the 44-day battles.
