Natalya Rotenberg Cup Tournament: Will Rotenberg be Given a Position?
The "Natalya Rotenberg Cup" tournament in artistic gymnastics took place in Yerevan from January 28-30, attracting around 170 gymnasts from Yerevan, Gyumri, Kapan, and Kajaran.
This tournament was organized in collaboration with the Armenian Gymnastics Federation by former gymnast and ballet dancer Natalya Rotenberg. Present at the opening ceremony were Gagik Vanoyan, President of the Armenian Gymnastics Federation; Arthur Davtyan, bronze medalist of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and European champion; Vahagn Davtyan, head of the sports department of the Yerevan municipality; as well as coaches in artistic gymnastics. The deputy minister of education, science, culture, and sport, Karen Ghilyan, also attended the event.
Ghilyan noted that it was a very well-organized event, and the number of gymnasts was particularly encouraging. "Of course, in terms of quality, there is still a lot to be done. We cannot yet consider artistic gymnastics one of our strong sports, but Ms. Rotenberg shows a very enthusiastic approach to the sport and collaborates well with the Federation President Gagik Vanoyan," he stated.
According to Ghilyan, it is likely that Natalya Rotenberg will be entrusted with the position of vice president of the Armenian Gymnastics Federation, responsible for artistic gymnastics. "We have discussed this with Mr. Vanoyan, and most likely, we will entrust Ms. Rotenberg with the position of vice-president of the Federation for artistic gymnastics. She has great plans, and we will support her to make them a reality, so one day we can participate in competitions with the highest aspirations," he added.
As for upcoming programs, Ghilyan mentioned that discussions have taken place, but they will be summarized and become more concrete once Ms. Rotenberg's status is determined, which will happen in the coming days.
On the first day of the competition for the "Natalya Rotenberg Cup," gymnasts born between 2006-2010 competed, while those born between 2011-2014 took to the stage on the second day. It is also noteworthy that the Armenian Championship in artistic gymnastics will take place on February 16-17.
