Member of the 'Armenia' Faction to Sue Civil Contract MP
Lawyer Hovhannes Chamsaryan has taken on the representation of 'Armenia' faction member of the National Assembly, Hripsime Stambulyan. The lawyer will file a lawsuit demanding that MP Hasmik Hakobyan of the 'Civil Contract' faction retract derogatory statements made about Stambulyan.
Regarding this matter, the lawyer wrote on his Facebook page: 'It is no coincidence that in recent years, there has been a significant increase in cases related to the protection of honor, dignity, or business reputation in Armenian courts, as nowadays, the constitutional right of a person to freely express their opinion is often distorted to the point of becoming a primitive category of 'saying whatever one wants.' When it comes to expressing opinions from political platforms, it is clear that it is primarily aimed at influencing the governance of the public (impacting the large masses) and only then serves a political purpose.'
For this reason, speeches from political podiums, especially from individuals holding high state positions representing the ruling power in our country, often lack justification, are far from being substantiated, and are aimed solely at tarnishing the reputation of the opponent. On January 19, 2022, during a session of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, defamatory information was published by MP Hasmik Hakobyan about Hripsime Stambulyan.
There is a significant overlap in Ms. Stambulyan's political activities, personal values, and my professional principles, namely, the promotion of the formation of a democratic society in Armenia, which begins with respecting the rights of others. And it must start from the National Assembly podium. Based on all of this, we will soon file a lawsuit in court against MP Hasmik Hakobyan demanding the retraction of the defamatory information, expecting a fair and impartial examination of the case.'
