If the Sheep Are Not Returned, the Shepherd Will Be Compensated: What to Expect
The Azerbaijani side has yet to return the sheep of Surik Matevosyan, a shepherd from the Tegh community. This was stated by the Tegh community head, David Ghulunts, to Factinfo.
“Negotiations are ongoing, but there is still nothing serious. It’s a waiting situation,” the community head said, adding that if the sheep are not returned, the shepherd will be compensated.
Previously, it was reported that on January 13, Azerbaijanis had kidnapped the shepherd from the Tegh community and taken his entire flock. The Russian peacekeepers facilitated the return of the Armenian citizen, but the flock remains missing.
Speaking about compensating villagers whose properties were lost due to the government’s actions allowing Azerbaijani occupation of community lands, David Ghulunts noted that community leaders are collecting data on residents.
When asked how many residents would receive compensation, David Ghulunts stated that he could not provide a specific number at this moment. “We have already sent the documents for the first group to the regional administration, and they are already collecting data for the second group of villagers. We will also send these to the regional administration,” the community head mentioned, adding that residents have not yet received compensation.
According to him, there is a provision for compensating residents 200,000 drams for each hectare of lost land. When asked about the total area of land for which compensation should be provided, David Ghulunts again did not specify a concrete number.
