Baku Press Refers to Southern Region of Georgia as 'Independent Borchalou', Historian Says

Historian Arshaluis Zurabyan writes: “In Azerbaijan, they sometimes indulge a sick imagination, resulting in the periodic reconfiguration of the region's map, and undoubtedly, they plead with Allah for the realization of their dreams. Their gaze is set not only on Artsakh, Lake Sevan, and Syunik, but also on the northern-western provinces of Iran, as well as Dagestan and the southern regions of Georgia. Thus, Baku press frequently publishes reports referring to the southern region of the Republic of Georgia as 'Independent Borchalou'. They have even specified the boundaries of this nonexistent state, its coat of arms, flag, and anthem. There is still no consensus on the capital; they are contemplating whether it should be Batumi, Marneuli, or Akhaltsikhe.

By the way, two of the three main highways from Armenia to Georgia pass through densely Azerbaijani populated areas. The only exception is the Gyumri-Bavra-Ninotsminda road.”
