Authorities Clearly Demonstrate that They Do Not Tolerate Judicial Independence: Vardevanyan
Member of the ‘Armenia’ faction, Aram Vardevanyan, writes:
“It is evident that the actions of law enforcement against Judge Boris Bakhshyan are aimed at sending a very specific signal to the entire judicial system. This kind of behavior is characteristic of authoritarian regimes, and of course, none of this will be noticed in the PACE. Over the last year, these authorities have clearly demonstrated that they do not tolerate judicial independence. The responsibility for preventing this situation and ensuring the independence of judges, according to the Constitution, lies with the Supreme Judicial Council. This means that this body should protect judges, despite having contributed in every way over the last year to the eradication of judicial independence.”
