Sasun Mikayelyan Uses the Property of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union at His Own Resort

Aravot.am reports that the spa facility named "Warm Waters" located in the community of Mehkradzor in Kotayk Province belongs to the president of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, Sasun Mikayelyan. This information comes from a response to an inquiry made to the Armenian Cadastre.

Sasun Mikayelyan's ownership of the property is registered under the code 07-039-0005-0003 at the address 3rd Alley, 3rd Street, Hankavan 3rd Street, Mehkradzor community, Kotayk Province. Previously, it was registered under the name of Benjamin Ghazarayan. Additionally, a residential house at Hankavan 1st Street No. 7/1 is also registered under Mikayelyan's ownership, which was previously listed under the names of Anjela Khachatryan and Arthur Khachatryan.

A property at 3rd Alley, 15, with the registration code 07-039-0005-0002, also shows Mikayelyan as the owner, previously registered under the Armenian Resorts Social Health Foundation. Further, property under the code 07-039-0005-0014 at 3rd Alley, 15/1, is similarly registered to Mikayelyan, previously under the name of Kotayk Province's Mehkradzor community.

The change of ownership took place on June 30, 2020. It has been reported that a UAZ vehicle with the state number 01 PG 045 is being utilized at this resort owned by Mikayelyan. In response to a journalistic inquiry regarding the legal or physical entity that owns the UAZ vehicle, Yerkrapah Volunteer Union president Sasun Mikayelyan stated, "The vehicle was confiscated in criminal case No. 58212718 and, by the decision of the Yerevan city court on April 7, 2020, has been handed to the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union public organization for use without management rights."

The car's value is assessed at 7,500,000 AMD. However, photographs indicate that the vehicle is being used for construction work at the Warm Waters resort. Residents of Hankavan reported several months ago that construction work in the area of Warm Waters had caused damage to the adjacent forest while attempting to draw drinking water.

Inquiries made to the Environmental Inspection and Subsoil Inspection Body aimed to determine the extent of damage to the community. However, D. Davtyan, head of the Kotayk Province territorial division, responded that inspections confirmed that a water line had been constructed in the Warm Waters area during the Soviet era. "At the same time, I would like to inform you that 'Largo Win' LLC operates in the Warm Waters area, which has undertaken pipe and road renovation works. During these works, no trees were cut or harmed, therefore, no damage was caused to the Mehkradzor community or nature," he stated.

Davtyan also forwarded information from Hankavan administrative head Shahen Hakobyan, dated December 1, 2021, stating that the water line had been established during Soviet times, and due to damaged pipes, relevant waterline and road works were completed without cutting any community-owned trees.

Using Google Earth, past images show dense forests in Hankavan from 2016 and 2020, but no recent images post-2021 deforestation efforts are available that could prove the number of trees removed. When local residents were asked if there had been any tree cutting during the water line restoration construction, they reported that trees were indeed cut, but the exact number is unknown to them.
