Is There a State Secret or Not? What is Revealed by ‘Zhoghovurd’

New developments have emerged in the criminal case initiated after the statements of former Chief of the General Staff of the RA Armed Forces, Movses Hakobyan. As it is known, on May 4, 2021, the former Chief of the General Staff was charged in a criminal case being investigated by the National Security Service. The Lieutenant General is accused under Article 306 of the Criminal Code for disclosing state secrets.

On June 29, the case was sent to the court with an indictment conclusion. And now, according to information from the newspaper 'Zhoghovurd', despite the fact that the court sessions are being held behind closed doors, an interesting situation has arisen. In particular, a commission has now been established in the General Staff of the Armed Forces, and the members are being invited to court in turn. The reason for such a step is that they want to understand from these officials how much Hakobyan's statements contain state secrets.

It should be noted that during a press conference on November 19, the Lieutenant General claimed that instead of replenishing the army with reserves, volunteers were sent to the front line, and incorrect weaponry was purchased. At the same time, he blamed the new authorities for changing the plans for the development of weapons and military equipment, increasing the operational unit, and reducing the actual combat personnel.
