Acquisition of new multifunctional helicopters was appropriate, says Abrahamyan

In an interview on AD TV, member of the National Assembly from the "Honorary Have" faction, Tigran Abrahamyan, stated that the acquisition of new multifunctional helicopters was appropriate, especially since losses of helicopters were recorded during the 44-day war. However, he does not observe any reforms taking place in the army, noting that in a small country like Armenia, which possesses a significant military structure, even the slightest reform would not go unnoticed.

Referring to Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement at a press conference about moving towards a professional army, Abrahamyan remarked that many speak of a professional army without understanding what it entails. He stated, "In the armed forces, even small changes—I'm not talking about reforms—become immediately perceptible and visible to the public. Because in a country like ours, we have quite a large military system, it is natural that we are in a phase of permanent wars or unresolved conflicts. When we are convinced that there is a process underway, but it is invisible, and because it is hidden from the adversary, society is also unable to see it; this has nothing to do with reality."

The representative from the "Honorary Have" faction underlined that no actual reforms are taking place. He claims that the measures carried out by the authorities only indicate the opposite: detentions and criminal cases, many of which are later dismissed, but no one hears about them afterward. He added that the processes occurring within the military only harm the army.

"In our country, it seems that everyone is culpable except for one person, and that person is Nikol Pashinyan," the MP stated.

Regarding the detentions of prisoners of war returning to Armenia, specifically contractual serviceman Aren Aghamyan, who has sustained severe injuries, Abrahamyan mentioned that he personally visited the penitentiary facility and met with the seriously wounded former prisoner of war. He emphasized that while it is not excluded that the serviceman may have violated the law, it is illogical for someone with such severe injuries to remain in custody for months without receiving medical assistance.

"This indifference, which we talk about and which exists at the highest echelons of power, is also reflected in certain exceptions in the investigative, prosecutorial, and judicial systems and, regardless of the political orders given, these individuals seem to have lost their human and moral sensibilities," said Abrahamyan.

Commenting on the lack of serious efforts to search for missing serviceman Norik Mkrtchyan in Gegharkunik Province since May 14, and the absence of any news from the Ministry of Defense regarding the disappearance of a contractual serviceman serving in the Nakhchivan direction in November, he attributed this neglect to the authorities' aim to maintain their reputation by silencing these incidents.
