Monument Complex Instead of Jesus Statue: What Project Has Tsarukyan Proposed?

Many designers and architects have responded to the initiative to erect a statue of Jesus Christ in Armenia. Over a hundred proposals have already been received from both Armenia and abroad. In addition to the statue of Jesus Christ, some have also presented their ideas on what kind of monument the first country to adopt Christianity as a state religion should have.

Cultural figure and director Ruben Hovhannisyan believes that Gagik Tsarukyan's initiative could serve as a unifying means. 'What is the Great Turan project, to erase Armenia from the map? Maybe this project will act as an impetus for the unification of the Christian world,' said Hovhannisyan, noting that it could become a pilgrimage site.

He proposed to build a monument complex that would include three platforms: the first showcasing reliefs depicting the birth and life of Christ, the second featuring a cave, and the third intended for the placement of the statue of Christ and the cross.
