The United States Will Not Make Any Concessions in Talks with Russia

The United States is prepared to engage in dialogue with Russia regarding the proposed security guarantees but will make no concessions. This was announced by U.S. State Department spokesperson Ned Price during a press briefing.

"The key point is that every step we take will not be a concession. They must be based on the principle of reciprocity, which means that the Russians must also do something that will help improve our security," Price commented.

On December 17, Russia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs circulated drafts of two documents proposing legal security guarantees from the U.S. and NATO. Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin called on NATO to begin substantive negotiations aimed at providing Russia with reliable and long-term security guarantees. He clarified that it is the legal guarantees that Moscow needs, as Western partners have not fulfilled their corresponding verbal commitments.
