Residents of Karmir Shuka Blocked Road for Azerbaijanis

Police officers were present on the scene to prevent possible clashes. Negotiations were conducted by Russian peacekeepers. In Karmir Shuka, a town in the Martuni region of Artsakh, local residents, mainly youth, temporarily blocked the main road to halt a convoy of Azerbaijani vehicles. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by our local source.

The issue is that the livestock of Karmir Shuka residents sometimes cross into the neutral zone or Azerbaijani-occupied territories, and Azerbaijanis take the animals and do not return them. Such an incident occurred a few days ago. Today, the youth of the village learned that an Azerbaijani convoy would be passing and decided to block the road.

“They said that if they don’t return the livestock, we won’t let them pass this road either,” our source stated.

Police officers were on-site to prevent possible confrontations. According to our interlocutor, negotiations were also held with the mediation of Russian peacekeepers, and the Armenian side reopened the road. “Azerbaijanis promised to return the livestock,” he noted.

This is not the first occurrence; in the past, as a result of negotiations, Azerbaijanis have returned Armenian livestock.

It should be noted that gunfire was also heard from Azerbaijani positions near Karmir Shuka on January 24.
