What Will Happen to the Syunik Section of the North-South Highway? Vardan Voskanyan
Iranian expert Vardan Voskanyan writes: “According to Nikol Pashinyan, the railway connecting Julfa (Iran) - Jugha (Nakhchivan) - Yeraskh (Armenia) should also serve the transportation hub aimed at linking the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea from the Iranian side.
It raises the question: what will happen to the Syunik section of the North-South highway, which aims to connect not only Armenia's northern and central regions with the south but also to ensure a significant portion of the Persian Gulf - Black Sea project on Armenian territory without entering Azerbaijani territory?
With such a ‘railway logic,’ Nakhchivan becomes an inadvertent beneficiary of this vital transportation hub, while Armenia's Syunik region could effectively be sidelined from this critical program.”
