What Caused the Gas Smell in Gyumri
The gas smell that spread in Gyumri on the evening of January 20 was due to the Shirak Gasification and Gas Supply Branch (GGM) injecting a higher dosage of odorant (a fragrant aromatic component). According to responsible officials, it was just the smell and not a gas leak.
This was reported to Armenpress by Alexander Gyozalyan, head of the Shirak Regional Rescue Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations. The gas smell, which spread in Gyumri and partially in Akhuryan, caused concern among citizens. Later, Shirak Governor Nazeli Baghdasaryan also addressed the situation on social networks, urging the company to inform residents in the future about similar activities.
“In any case, the public should be notified in advance about such tests, which was not carried out properly. I have urged the leadership of Shirak GGM to inform the Shirak regional administration about any future activities and to maintain diligence in their work,” the statement said.
