Attempted Illegal Drug Trafficking by a Convict
The investigation into the case of attempted illegal drug trafficking without intent to distribute by a convict has been completed at the Armavir regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee.
The Investigative Committee reports that a number of significant circumstances pertaining to the case have been established through various investigative and procedural actions conducted during the pre-trial proceedings. It has been revealed and substantiated that a 31-year-old convict from the RA Ministry of Justice's 'Armavir' penitentiary attempted to illegally obtain a particularly large quantity of 'Acetylated Opium' and significant quantities of 'Hashish' through an acquaintance, a resident of Armavir region, without the aim of distributing them.
Specifically, it was found that the convict's acquaintance illegally obtained 3.82 grams of 'Acetylated Opium' and 6.09 grams of 'Hashish,' which were concealed in a pizza, from an unidentified person. She attempted to transfer these drugs to the convict through a taxi service in Yerevan. The convict transferred the received parcel and tried to hand it over to him via the food point of the penitentiary, but the crime was not completed, as the mentioned drugs were discovered and confiscated by the staff during the inspection of the parcel.
Based on the collected sufficient evidence, the convict has been charged under part 3 of Article 34-268 of the RA Criminal Code, while the resident of Armavir has been charged under part 3 of Article 38-34-268. The materials concerning them have been separated for individual proceedings, the completion of the investigation has been announced, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion. The investigation continues regarding the person who distributed the drugs to the Armavir resident. Measures are being taken to identify the source of acquisition and the identity of the distributor, to locate this individual, and to present them to the prosecuting authority. Instructions have been given to the investigative body.
