Yerevan State University Rector Attempts Salary Increase, But Papikyan Refuses - Comments from YSU

Today, a closed session of the Board of Trustees took place at Yerevan State University (YSU), chaired by Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan. This was reported by Oragir.news.

The outlet revealed intriguing details from the agenda, particularly that Hovhannes Hovhannisyan attempted to discuss an increase in the rector's salary. Currently, the rector of YSU receives a salary of 800,000 AMD, which, apparently, is not satisfactory for Hovhannisyan, who requested a salary of 1,200,000 AMD. Papikyan reportedly refused the request. Hovhannisyan had also wanted to increase the rector's salary immediately after Nikol Pashinyan came to power, but at that time, the rector was Aram Simonyan, who was being actively pushed out, eventually leading to his dismissal. It seems that Hovhannisyan had dreamed of becoming rector back then and was also trying to resolve the issue of his desired salary, a situation he wishes to replicate during Papikyan's tenure as well.

Auroranews.am reached out to YSU spokesperson Azniv Grigoryan. She noted that the meeting was not closed, as journalists did not approach to cover it. Regarding the information on the rector’s salary, she mentioned that the issue of the salary scale was on the agenda, but it was unclear whether there was any proposal concerning the rector’s salary.

The spokesperson requested to reach out again in the morning for clarification and further responses.
