Trained Dogs Find COVID-19 Infected Students in Schools
Five schools in Massachusetts, USA, have hired trained dogs to detect coronavirus infections among students and staff, according to BBC reports.
The trained dogs walk through classrooms, cafeterias, hallways, and other school areas. If the animals sense someone is infected with COVID-19, they will place their paws on the individual, prompting them to undergo testing.
However, people have responded differently to this new initiative. Many have raised concerns about whether dogs could become spreaders of the virus and whether they might frighten children. Nevertheless, Rick Medeiros, manager of the five schools, stated that students are excited to interact with the animals. “The dogs can play with the students, which is highly appreciated by young children,” he explained.
Additionally, Rick mentioned that the dog detection system has proven effective, and other schools across the U.S. have started adopting this method as well.
