The Delimitation Commission Between Armenia and Azerbaijan Has Not Yet Been Established, Says Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The delimitation and demarcation commission for the state border between Armenia and Azerbaijan has not yet been established, the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in response to a query from Azatutyun.

"An agreement was reached on taking steps to enhance the stability and security of the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and to promote the establishment of a bilateral commission on the delimitation and subsequently demarcation of the state border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan during the trilateral meeting held on November 26, 2021, between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the Presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan in Sochi, and this is also mentioned in the joint statement issued following the meeting. However, the commission has still not been formed. If there is new information regarding the formation of the commission, the public will be duly informed," the Foreign Ministry's response indicated.

Vice President of the National Assembly Ruben Rubinyan, who is also Armenia's special representative for normalizing relations with Turkey, confirmed yesterday that the official Yerevan has sent new proposals regarding the demarcation and delimitation process to Azerbaijan, but he did not specify what these proposals were, urging to refer to the government for details.

On January 14, the Russian Foreign Minister spoke about the proposals from the Armenian side. Sergey Lavrov stated that Armenia has presented new proposals regarding the establishment of the delimitation commission with Azerbaijan, which will be conveyed to Baku through the Russian side, without specifying what these proposals entailed.

Last Friday, Azatutyun sent a request to the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking for further details. The structure led by Ararat Mirzoyan has not yet responded.
