If Necessary, Armenian Authorities Will Appeal to CSTO: Mirzoyan

If Necessary, Armenian Authorities Will Appeal to CSTO: Mirzoyan

During a question-and-answer session with the government in the National Assembly today, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan responded to a query regarding the Azerbaijani military's incursion into Armenia's sovereign territory since May 12, 2021, stating that if the need arises, the Armenian authorities will turn to the CSTO.

“The CSTO is an organization, not an army, and if you look at the CSTO statute, in such cases where the intervention of allies becomes necessary, political mechanisms are first activated, and only in cases where these are impossible are consultations and interventions on the ground anticipated,” said Mirzoyan.

The Foreign Minister announced that certain tools foreseen by the CSTO statute, in the form of political intervention, have been and are still being applied, expressing hope that this path could lead to a resolution of the issue. Nevertheless, Mirzoyan did not rule out that if necessary, Armenia might also appeal to the CSTO for specific actions.

“The CSTO statute exists, Article 4 exists, and if it becomes necessary to appeal under Article 4, the Armenian government will make such a decision,” he added.
