Boundary demarcation and delimitation commission has not yet been established, but talks are about an imminent process: Mirzoyan
The boundary demarcation and delimitation commission between Armenia and Azerbaijan has not yet been established, and there is no clarity on deadlines. This was stated today by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, during a question and answer session with the government in the National Assembly, in response to a question from the member of the "Civil Contract" faction, Taguhi Ghazaryan, regarding the status of the commission's creation.
“Currently, the conditions under which that commission can start working are being discussed. Our conviction is that as long as specific mechanisms are not put in place and steps are not taken to enhance stability and security in the border area, which will help prevent further clashes, then the commission will have difficulty being established and functioning,” noted Mirzoyan.
He emphasized that there is no clarity on the deadlines for the commission's creation; however, the talks are about an imminent process. The Foreign Minister stressed that there are circumstances to clarify and agree upon, which must be implemented before the commission can be formed and start operating. They are located in the area of Lake Sevan in Syunik, trying to strengthen their position there, as well as in the Gegharkunik region.
It should be recalled that at the end of May, Prime Minister Pashinyan had proposed to the Azerbaijani side to withdraw troops in a mirror manner and deploy international observers in that area to further clarify the borders.
