Azerbaijanis Make Attractive Offers to Artsakh Residents to Sell Their Homes: Metakse Hakobyan

Azerbaijanis are making attractive offers to Artsakh residents to sell their homes. In Artsakh, there has been a serious loss of concern regarding these matters, and moreover, this campaign existed even before the 44-day war. This was stated by Metakse Hakobyan, a member of the Artsakh Parliament’s 'Justice' faction, in an interview with Lurer.com regarding recent reports in the media that Azerbaijanis are presenting various offers to buy homes from Artsakh residents.

The parliament member noted that Azerbaijanis are reaching out to Armenians on social platforms and are targeting groups of people who are much more active in the social realm. Although the frequency of these offers from Azerbaijanis has not decreased over the years, the parliament member remains calm, asserting that no Artsakh resident will sell their home, nor will an Azerbaijani buy it and live in Stepanakert, for instance. 'If that were the case, Shushi would already be populated; of course, no one would come here to live. The border is very strictly controlled here; even if they were to manage to buy a house, no one would allow them to come and reside here. Even Armenians find it very difficult to enter Artsakh,' she stated.

Hakobyan emphasized that there isn’t a single person in Artsakh today who would fall for such temptations. She elaborated that communication between an Artsakh resident and an Azerbaijani only occurs when our people are unaware they are engaging with an Azerbaijani, meaning they are posing as Armenian users, which the National Security Service uncovers shortly thereafter.

In response to our observation that if these offers are only a facade, what is the point of making such proposals, Metakse Hakobyan indicated that they are attempting to feel victorious and instill panic in Artsakh. 'Their action resembles a type of terror; Azerbaijanis take pleasure from all of this,' she added.

She also stressed that for Azerbaijanis, Artsakh is not a homeland and has never been. 'In the year since they came and occupied our territory, I have not seen any love from them towards Artsakh; they are simply nomadic tribes who periodically engage in looting—kidnapping our livestock, let alone the shepherds. Artsakh is our homeland, for them merely a territory, and the struggle we are engaged in is for that territory, which cannot embody the idea of a homeland for them,' she concluded.
