Iranian Boxer Sentenced to Death for Participating in Protests; Journalist Appeals to Global Athletes
Boxer Mohammad Javad has been sentenced to death for participating in anti-government protests in Iran in November 2019.
The court's decision was announced by journalist and activist Masih Alinejad, as reported by Armsport.am.
“Another athlete was executed in Iran for participating in protests in November 2019. Mohammad Javad, 26, was a boxing champion. He was sentenced to death for 'spreading corruption on Earth.' We failed to save Iranian wrestler Navid Afkari; global athletes can help us this time,” Alinejad wrote on Twitter.
Experts note that the charge of 'spreading corruption on Earth' is frequently used against the opposition.
It is worth mentioning that in 2020, wrestler Navid Afkari was executed for his participation in protests.
