VIDEO: Manager of "Yerevan City" Tortures and Kills Cat Stealing Food; Fired from Job
A manager at the "Yerevan City" supermarket in Avan, owned by former MP and businessman Samvel Aleksanyan, has reportedly tortured and killed a cat. A citizen who reported the incident stated that the cat entered the supermarket and stole sausage. "The cat had 4-5 kittens and stole the sausage to feed her kittens. That scoundrel put his foot on the cat's throat and, torturing it, killed it. He works at the Yerevan City supermarket as a manager and should be punished for his act. Your kind should be wiped out," the citizen narrates in a video shared on the Facebook group 'We and Our Animals'.
Shortly after, correspondence with Samvel Aleksanyan's wife, Shoghik, was published in the group, confirming that the employee has been dismissed.
It is worth noting that a law was adopted in Armenia on October 23, 2019, criminalizing cruelty towards animals. The law stipulates that any form of cruel treatment towards animals, including but not limited to strangulation, hanging, dismemberment, striking, whipping, shooting, poisoning, skinning alive, and other acts of torture, is punishable by a fine of 100,000-300,000 AMD, detention for 1-3 months, or imprisonment for up to one year.
