Hayk Marutyan Summoned to Police

During the session of the Yerevan City Council, no information indicating criminal elements was found regarding the statements made by former Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan, according to a study conducted on the matter. This information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by the Public Relations Department of the Prosecutor General's Office.

On December 22, 2022, during a City Council meeting, Hayk Marutyan stated that during his tenure, he received calls with various requests regarding the construction of certain buildings or the establishment of trade points, all of which he rejected, declaring that he would work within the law.

According to the prosecutor's office, Marutyan was summoned and appeared at the police, but refused to file a report and provide explanations. "Marutyan stated that he could not specify specific individuals or circumstances regarding the general cases he mentioned about receiving calls from someone or requests made by various individuals. According to him, he spoke about them merely to indicate his ideological and principled approaches, therefore he cannot provide any information or clarification related to those cases and does not wish to file a report concerning a crime," the prosecutor's office said.

This means that as a result of the investigations conducted in this regard, no information indicating specific criminal elements or substantiating circumstances or factual data has been discovered.

It is noteworthy that on December 22, 2021, the Yerevan City Council convened an extraordinary session and expressed no confidence in Hayk Marutyan, who was elected mayor on September 23, 2018, based on the results of the Yerevan City Council elections under the “My Step” alliance.

Days later, on December 25, Hrachya Sargsyan was elected as the new Mayor of Yerevan.
