Gates on the Spread of the Omicron Variant and the Origin of the Coronavirus

Microsoft founder and billionaire Bill Gates believes that the number of coronavirus cases will decrease in countries following the wave of the Omicron variant, treating the virus more like seasonal influenza.

Gates has presented his predictions on when the spread of Omicron will peak in Russia. He also noted that the current vaccines have two drawbacks: vaccinated individuals can still become infected, and the efficacy of the vaccine diminishes over time.

“We need vaccines that prevent reinfection and will protect us for years,” said the Microsoft founder.

Speaking about the origin of the coronavirus, Gates stated that data indicate it was transmitted from another species to humans. “In the future, there will also be outbreaks stemming from other species, so we must invest in preparations for them,” he added.
