Tokaev Confirms New Government Structure of Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan's President Kassym-Jomart Tokaev has confirmed the composition of the country's new government. This information is reported by Sputnik Kazakhstan.
According to the presidential decree, Roman Sklyar has been appointed as the first deputy head of the cabinet, while Yeraly Tugzhanov has been named as the deputy prime minister. Mukhtar Tleuberdi will head Kazakhstan's foreign affairs ministry, also serving as a deputy prime minister. Murat Bektanov will lead the defense ministry, Erlan Turgumbaev will take charge of the internal affairs ministry, and Bakyt Sultanov will oversee the ministry of trade and integration.
The new government comprises 21 members. Previously, Tokaev appointed Alihan Smailov as the prime minister of Kazakhstan.
Recall that mass protests began in Kazakhstan on the first days of January 2022. On January 4 and 5, clashes occurred between protesters and security forces in Almaty.
On January 5, President Kassym-Jomart Tokaev signed a decree for the resignation of the government. On the same day, Tokaev imposed a two-week state of emergency in the country. He sought assistance from the Collective Security Treaty Organization, which is chaired by Armenia this year.
