Sending Armenian Peacekeepers to Kazakhstan Does Not Leave Our Borders Unprotected, Says Deputy Minister of Defense
Sending Armenian peacekeepers to Kazakhstan will not leave our country's borders unprotected. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Armenia, Arman Sargsyan, during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly, addressing concerns about the risks of deploying a military unit to another country while the situation at your own borders is tense.
"There is no risk, because the absence of those 100 servicemen is not a number that would signify any change regarding the tensions at the border," said Sargsyan.
He noted that the Ministry of Defense had clearly stated what functions the Armenian peacekeepers sent to Kazakhstan would perform; they will be tasked with the protection of critical facilities.
When asked if there are timelines for the return of the peacekeepers dispatched to Kazakhstan, the Deputy Minister replied that he could not specify exact dates. However, according to him, it was mentioned at the time of sending the peacekeepers to Kazakhstan that their deployment would be for a limited period.
It is worth recalling that on January 7, the Ministry of Defense announced that the armed forces of Armenia had dispatched a peacekeeping unit consisting of 100 servicemen to the Republic of Kazakhstan as part of the CSTO peacekeeping forces.
