Russian Peacekeepers in Artsakh to Have New Commander

Russian Peacekeepers in Artsakh to Have New Commander

The Russian peacekeeping force in Nagorno-Karabakh will be headed by Major General Alexander Volkov. This was reported to Sputnik Armenia by sources in Stepanakert.

The change of command is taking place as part of a planned rotation, and the process of accepting and handing over duties has already begun.

It is noteworthy that Major General Volkov served as the deputy commander of the Russian peacekeeping force in Nagorno-Karabakh from November 2020 to May 2021, during which time the peacekeepers were led by Lieutenant General Rustam Muradov.

Currently, Andrey Volkov heads the radiation, chemical and biological defense troops of the Southern Military District of the Russian Ministry of Defense.

Recall that since September of last year, the commander of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Artsakh has been Lieutenant General Gennady Anashkin.
