Video: Putin Mispronounces the Name of Kazakhstan's President During CSTO Meeting
Vladimir Putin expressed support for the President of Kazakhstan during an online CSTO meeting, mistakenly calling him “Kamel Zhomartovich” instead of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to Putin, “Kamel” has faced an unprecedented challenge to Kazakhstan's security. This was reported by meduza.io.
The President of Kazakhstan, “the real Tokayev,” who was also present at the meeting, remained silent and did not respond to the name mix-up.
This is not the first time that the Russian president has struggled to pronounce Tokayev’s name. In 2019, while discussing the change of presidency in Kazakhstan, Putin recalled Nursultan Nazarbayev's full name but referred to Tokayev simply as “the new president.” This time, at least, Putin made an effort.
