Pashinyan on Sending CSTO Peacekeepers to Kazakhstan
The decision to deploy CSTO peacekeepers to Kazakhstan has been made in light of the rapidly evolving situation in the country. This was stated today, January 10, during an online session of the Collective Security Council involving the heads of CSTO member states, by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
According to Pashinyan, the President of Kazakhstan has officially requested assistance from the Collective Security Council. Based on this request and in accordance with the CSTO Charter, the Prime Minister of Armenia, who chairs the Council, has activated the consulting mechanism with the heads of CSTO member states.
“Considering the trends of rapid development of the situation and the threats to Kazakhstan's security, stability, and sovereignty, it was decided, on the basis of consensus, to temporarily send peacekeepers to that country for the protection of strategic facilities,” the head of the Armenian government clarified.
