Netflix Series Sparks Wave of Hysteria in Turkey: Armenia Shown with Historical Borders Including Turkey
The American company Netflix has sparked controversy in Turkey with a map used in one of its series. The map presents Armenia within its historical borders, which includes parts of present-day Turkey.
The Turkish Center for Maritime and Global Strategy (Türk DEGS) was the first to comment on this on Twitter. The post highlighted that in a series about World War II, Turkish territories are represented as Armenian. This has been interpreted as targeting Turkey's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
The pro-government Turkish newspaper "Yeni Akit" has also addressed the issue. An article titled "An Insult from Netflix, Hostile Towards Turkey" points out that many citizens have expressed dissatisfaction with Netflix's approach. They are calling for the Supreme Council of Turkish Radio and Television (RTÜK) to take action and impose the strictest penalties against Netflix.
