NATO Secretary General: An Agreement with Russia is Possible, But Readiness for Confrontation is Necessary

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg is confident that effective dialogue with Russia is possible, but does not rule out the potential for confrontation. This was reported by "RIA Novosti."

Stoltenberg welcomed Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna in Brussels on Monday. During the visit, a meeting of the Ukraine-NATO commission is set to take place. It was previously reported that Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba was expected to participate in the commission meeting. This meeting is being held ahead of the "Russia-NATO Council meeting scheduled for January 12.

"These are important efforts aimed at reaching a political solution and preventing military conflict. We are conducting these negotiations in a spirit of goodwill. I have previously negotiated with Russia while I was the Prime Minister of Norway and I remember that agreements can be reached with Russia. We see this in our interactions with NATO. At the same time, we must also be prepared for the possibility that Russia may wish to use force and choose the path of confrontation instead of cooperation," Stoltenberg said.

Today, negotiations on security issues are also taking place between Russia and the United States in Geneva.
