Former Assistant of a Pro-KP MP Sentenced to Imprisonment for Brutal Assault on Lieutenant Colonel

In Yeghegnadzor, Harutyun Grigoryan, the former assistant of the pro-KP MP and former governor of Vayots Dzor, Tigran Sargsyan, has been sentenced to imprisonment for the brutal assault on Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtchyan.

According to a report by Factinfo, the general jurisdiction court of Ararat and Vayots Dzor, presided over by Judge Harutyun Petrosyan, announced the verdict today, in which Harutyun Grigoryan was found guilty under point 6 of part 2 of Article 112 of the RA Criminal Code for intentionally causing serious harm to an individual's health as part of a group, and sentenced to 5 years in prison. The criminal prosecution against Grigoryan for the incident classified under Article 118 regarding assault has been discontinued due to the expiration of the time limits.

It is noted that Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtchyan was brutally assaulted on September 18, 2019, in the yard of one of the buildings on Arsenyan Street in Yeghegnadzor, and has been in a coma for almost two years. Family members claim that Tigran Sargsyan also directly participated in the violence against the lieutenant colonel, which led him to announce his resignation from the position of governor amidst the uproar.

Three witnesses have corroborated the presence of the former governor at the incident, yet no charges have been brought against him. Charges were issued against two individuals in the criminal case, of which only one segment has been separated and sent to court, which is under the jurisdiction of Judge Harutyun Petrosyan.
