Did the Opposition Just Now Learn About the Sending of Troops to Kazakhstan? They Have Proposed an Extraordinary Session
The "Hayastan" faction of the National Assembly has addressed a letter to Andranik Kocharyan, the chairman of the Assembly's Defense and Security Committee, and Edward Aghazaryan, the chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, proposing to convene a joint committee meeting regarding the deployment of Armenian Armed Forces units to the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the CSTO.
It is noteworthy that Kazakhstan requested assistance from the CSTO just a week ago to confront terrorists, after which Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as the president of the CSTO Security Council, announced that a peacekeeping contingent would be sent from Armenia to Kazakhstan to protect strategic facilities. One hundred servicemen left for Kazakhstan the day after the announcement.
This decision sparked outrage among various segments of the public. Many political forces and experts opposed this decision, arguing that the same CSTO and Kazakhstan not only did not assist Armenia during the 44-day war but also congratulated the President of Azerbaijan on the restoration of territorial integrity and victory.
Perhaps many expected that on the very day of Pashinyan’s first statement, the parliamentary opposition would take actions to prevent Armenian peacekeepers from departing for Kazakhstan. However, some opposition members only made posts on social media, and now that Armenian peacekeepers are already in Kazakhstan, they have decided to take action.
