‘Those who try to bite us and our friends will be left toothless’: Russian Ambassador in Kazakhstan
In an exclusive interview with TASS, the Russian ambassador in Kazakhstan, Alexey Borodavkin, spoke about the situation in the republic, the reasons behind the ongoing events, and the response of CSTO forces. According to the diplomat, conspirators ultimately failed to implement their plan and ‘overthrow’ Kazakhstan due to the decisive actions of Kazakhstan's President Tokayev. Borodavkin stated that the president promptly took full responsibility for the unfolding events in the country.
‘Effective, albeit somewhat delayed, security forces began to push back the conspirators and terrorists. Finally, the CSTO arrived in time to assist. In the context of deploying peacekeeping forces, I want to emphasize that the leaders of CSTO member countries and our organization have demonstrated exceptional cohesion. It is a source of pride the operational efficiency and effectiveness with which the CSTO has addressed the practical challenges put forward by the political leadership of Kazakhstan to restore constitutional order,’ said the diplomat.
He also pointed out that only a few hours passed between President Tokayev's message to the CSTO and the landing of the first peacekeepers in Nur-Sultan and Almaty.
‘Let me stress once again that our enemies should not test fate. Russia is not the Russia of the 1990s anymore. Those who try to bite us and our friends will be left toothless,’ the diplomat concluded.
