VIDEO: Shooting at Soldiers in Kazakhstan
Kazakh Telegram channels report that the situation in the country remains extremely tense. It is noted that there are injured soldiers who have been shot at.
The presidential residence of Kazakhstan is being attacked, with security forces defending the building.
Recall that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev declared a state of emergency in the Almaty region due to the unrest that occurred last night. The relevant decree was published on the president's website.
Protests in Kazakhstan began in the early days of the new year. Residents of the cities of Zhanaozen and Aktau took to the streets to protest against the doubling of liquefied gas prices.
Tokayev has instructed the formation of a committee to examine the situation, which announced on January 4 that it is ready to meet the main demands of the protesters and reduce gas prices. However, the protests have spread to other cities.
In Almaty on January 4, protesters engaged in clashes with security personnel, who responded by using tear gas and stun grenades.
Meanwhile, protesters are once again gathering in the center of Almaty. Videos posted on social networks show a group of young people, one of whom is holding a special forces shield, which was likely seized from the clashes the previous day. Some participants in the march are using special vehicles that may also belong to the security forces.
