The Heights of Khndzoresk Were Under Our Control, After Our Withdrawal I Learned That 62 People Became Captives: What an Artsakh Resident Tells
During the 44-day war, we had two significant victories, one of which was maintaining control over the heights of Khndzoresk, in which I participated, but after the war, it came under Azerbaijani control. This was recounted to NEWS.am by Artsakh rapper Valeri Ghazaryan, better known by his stage name Lyoka.
“While the heights of Khndzoresk were under our control, the Kattaro Monastery, Khndzoresk, Old Taghlars, and nearby areas would have been ours. I was supposed to be married at the Kattaro Monastery, but after the war, I received a call informing me that the village of Nor Maragha, where I lived, would also come under Azerbaijani control, hence I had to withdraw and did not manage to get married. After the signing on November 9, we were told that we would keep the areas under our control and would not give them to anyone. We were also told that we needed to conduct a 'presmenshka' - to move to a different position. Since we were there throughout the war, we asked if the war was over, could we get down and have some rest, and be replaced. We were taken down from that position, and replacements were brought in. A few days later, a friend called me and said, ‘Do you know that 62 people from our post have been captured?’ This means we left, they brought in replacements, and that incident occurred. This signifies that individuals who voluntarily decided to defend their homeland were neglected by the Government and sent to the mouth of danger. With all due respect to everyone, I do not understand those who became captives, except in cases where captivity was inevitable. But how can 62 people become captives? It's absurd; 62 armed individuals at their post ended up captured? When you see a person coming to fire at you or take you captive, does that mean not to fire back? If one person shoots, the rest would jump into action and start fighting, and now they call them heroes. Who is the hero, them?” Valeri Ghazaryan said.
