«Do Not Violate Democratic Values»: Taguhi Tovmasyan on the Events in Vardenis
Member of the National Assembly's ‘I Have Honor’ faction, Taguhi Tovmasyan, made a post on her Facebook page.
“What is happening in Vardenis at this moment has nothing to do with the elements of a democratic and legal state. Today, the Vardenis council is supposed to elect a mayor, but it is not succeeding. Since morning, the authorities in Vardenis have been using a whole toolkit of pressure against candidates elected by the people. We are witnessing numerous human rights violations; council members have been detained, and the professional activities of lawyers are being obstructed, and so on.
Why? Because the ruling Civil Contract party has not gathered 50%+1 of the votes... But isn’t it true that the proud citizens of the Republic of Armenia have chosen proud councils by their own will?
Do not obstruct the realization of the councils' rights, do not violate democratic values. Remember, the citizen is the master of our country, and none of you are eternal.
P.S. The police should demonstrate political neutrality, maintaining strictly the letter of the law.”
