EU Stands by Armenia to Improve the Lives of Its Citizens: Andrea Victorin
The head of the EU delegation in Armenia, Ambassador Andrea Victorin, has issued a message ahead of the New Year: “The festive days are approaching, and soon we will leave behind another year filled with challenges. The COVID pandemic continues to leave its mark on health, economic security, and social welfare worldwide. The wounds inflicted by the war in Nagorno-Karabakh and the fragile sense of security are still present. We recognize that the difficulties are not over yet.
Speaking on behalf of the entire staff of the European Union delegation in Armenia, I can assure you that we are doing everything possible to support Armenia and the Armenian people in this difficult situation. The EU continues to work to mitigate the impacts of the pandemic and the war, to help improve the lives of Armenians, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth.
The EU responded swiftly to the urgent needs of Armenia and its citizens during the COVID-19 pandemic. The ‘Team Europe’ package worth nearly €100 million was provided not only to the Government in the form of budgetary support but also through targeted social assistance to over 3,000 vulnerable households. We facilitated online education for 350 children and provided support to over 1,000 small and medium-sized enterprises, helping them develop new digital approaches. Critical medical equipment was supplied to hospitals and laboratories for patient care.
Together with EU member states, we continued to provide support to the civilian population affected by conflict in the region. The EU stands by Armenia to improve the lives of its citizens through support in socio-economic development and investment.
Dear Armenians, I hope that the New Year will be peaceful and that you will find your strength for yourselves, your loved ones, and for Armenia. May the New Year make us all better and more resilient, and I hope brighter days are ahead. Thank you!”
