Brutal Murder Case in Gyumri Uncovered
On December 28, after a high-profile murder in Gyumri, discussions continued in the city about the possibility that the murder would go unsolved and soon be forgotten, leaving the perpetrator or perpetrators free to roam. Shortly after the murder, under the directive of the Chief of Police of Armenia, Major General Vahe Ghazaryan, operational-investigative and investigative groups were formed, and experienced police officers and investigators commenced work based on several hypotheses. Ultimately, they proved that no crime remains unsolved.
Yesterday, a 50-year-old resident of Yerevan, Gevorg M., was taken into custody by the police department of Kumayri on suspicion of the high-profile murder in Gyumri. According to sources, he is suspected of killing 63-year-old Anahit Iskandaryan, a resident of Gyumri, and stealing her bag and mobile phone. He was subsequently transferred from the Kumayri police department to the Shirak regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, where, upon the investigator's decision, he was arrested.
A criminal case has been initiated against him under Article 104, Part 2, Clause 8 of the Armenian Criminal Code. He confessed to committing the murder, stating that he burned the wallet and phone at the end of Yerevan Highway in Gyumri, while the murder weapon, a knife, was discarded on the Gyumri-Yerevan highway.
