Newly Elected Mayor Announces Date of Next City Council Meeting

The first session of the 8th session of the Yerevan City Council will be held on February 8, 2022, at 11:00 AM. This was announced today, December 28, by the newly elected mayor of Yerevan, Hrachya Sargsyan, during an extraordinary session of the City Council.

It is noteworthy that today the Yerevan City Council convened an extraordinary meeting, which includes 22 items on the agenda. This will be the first session of the council following the dismissal of the former mayor, Haik Marutyan.

Recall that the regular session of the Yerevan City Council scheduled for December 21 was canceled due to a boycott by the My Step faction, and the following day, in an extraordinary session, a vote of no confidence was passed against mayor Haik Marutyan.

Particularly, the agenda of the upcoming meeting includes the appointment of the first deputy mayor of Yerevan. The candidacy of Levon Hovhannisyan, a member of the City Council, is expected to be proposed for this position. Previously, the current mayor Hrachya Sargsyan held this position.
