Dismissed Teacher Reinstated by Court Decision

The history teacher of Khachatur Abovian High School N1 in the town of Abovyan, Kotayk Province, Hayk Paytayan, who was dismissed by the newly appointed principal Karmile Arakelyan in February, has been reinstated to his position by a court decision and will return to school on December 28. Since February 2021, the teaching staff and some students at Khachatur Abovian High School N1 have been holding protests demanding the resignation of the newly appointed principal Karmile Arakelyan so that the former principal Metaksy Babayan could return to her job, with Paytayan himself being one of the protesters. Arakelyan was appointed by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports, Vahram Dumanyan, when the school management council held a competition for the vacant principal position on January 22, where both candidates were deemed winners, meaning the teacher's appointment was to be made by the minister.

The new principal dismissed 13 out of 26 teachers, including history teacher Hayk Paytayan, either by their request or without them requesting it, on February 13. However, he filed a lawsuit against the newly appointed principal’s decision.
