Recently Returned from Yerevan: Zas on the Situation at the Armenia-Azerbaijan Border

We are closely monitoring the situation in the South Caucasus and are in constant contact with the Armenian side. I recently returned from Yerevan, where I thoroughly discussed the prevailing situation with the country's leadership. This was stated by CSTO Secretary General Stanislav Zas in an interview with the journal Союзники.ОДКБ.

“I highly appreciate the efforts of the Russian Federation, which is carrying out a very important peacekeeping mission in Nagorno-Karabakh, and has practically taken on the role of mediator in resolving the consequences of the bloody war, with the consent of both parties. These efforts have allowed Russia to halt hostilities, save many lives, and restore areas affected by military operations in a short period, providing residents with food, clothing, and medical supplies.

The CSTO is confident that disagreements regarding border issues must be resolved exclusively through political and diplomatic means. The organization supports the intention, enshrined in the trilateral statement of November 26, to establish a bilateral commission on delimitation and demarcation of borders between Armenia and Azerbaijan. We also welcome the steps taken by the Armenian government aimed at a political-diplomatic resolution of the situation. We consider this the only way forward,” said the CSTO Secretary General.
