"In Reality, We Do Not Control Much Larger Areas". Live Press Conference of Robert Kocharyan

Robert Kocharyan, the second President of Armenia and leader of the "Armenia" alliance, assessed the year for Armenia as a complete failure during a year-end press conference. He added that no issues have improved over the year.

The second president noted that the authorities speak about 40 square meters of territory under enemy control, but according to Robert Kocharyan, in reality, we do not control much larger areas.

“The GPS demarcation led to Azerbaijani troops positioning themselves at what they claim is their border. We have been compelled to retreat by at least 500 meters to 1-1.5 kilometers, and in some areas, even further. The same has happened in the Vardenis area and also in Nakhichevan. All that territory from their positions to ours is not under our control. Therefore, we have lost control not only over that 40 square meters but over ten times larger territories,” said Robert Kocharyan.

He also emphasized that this year we lost the opportunity to use critical roadways. He pointed out that nothing was done throughout the year to enhance the army's combat readiness.

“Having more than 30 captives for 2-3 positions during combat operations indicates serious issues within the army. That’s not how it works,” said Robert Kocharyan.
