Traffic Jam of Armenian Trucks in Lars Reaches 'Up to Tbilisi' - 'Hraparak'

Since December 17, heavy precipitation has caused significant traffic jams for trucks on the Stepanantsminda-Lars highway. Hundreds of Armenian trucks have been stuck at the Georgia border for several days, just short of the Lars checkpoint. This was reported by 'Hraparak'. The media outlet notes that the queue stretches as far as Tbilisi.

The same situation prevails on the Russian side, with again massive jams and Armenian-registered vehicles, both heavy trucks and light passenger cars.

'The accumulation of trucks during these pre-holiday days is causing immense damage to businesses. Firstly, transportation companies are forced to pay their drivers daily allowances and food expenses, which is a considerable cost. Additionally, importing companies that planned to bring in goods ahead of the New Year now find themselves facing a reality where they have paid for and purchased products, but their goods have yet to arrive due to closed roads.'

The Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure informed us that there are about 500 Armenian trucks stuck on the Georgian side, while around a thousand are on the Russian side, along with about 150 passenger cars. 'The traffic jams in Lars have been caused by heavy precipitation over the past week. The rain has stopped today, and road cleaning operations have begun, which should gradually alleviate the congestion,' said Sona Harutyunyan, the spokeswoman for the ministry.

Regarding contact with the drivers and the necessary assistance, the ministry's spokesperson stated that the embassy is in constant communication and is providing help in all possible ways if necessary.
