What Does Azerbaijan Aim to Achieve? Occupied Armenian Settlements on Google Maps
As we have already reported, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has officially approached Google, requesting the company to refrain from using Armenian names for the territories that fell under Baku's control as a result of the 44-day war. This was stated by Leyla Abdullayeva, the head of the ministry's press service.
Currently, the names of the Armenian cities and regions in Artsakh, controlled by Azerbaijan, are listed in both Azerbaijani and Armenian languages on the Google Maps application. Azerbaijan has sent a letter to Google, presenting a list of official geographical names for the corresponding territories.
It will soon become clear whether the company will change the place names, and if so, when such changes will be implemented. Аuroranews presents how the place names are currently written on Google Earth maps:
