VIDEO: Pedestrian Struck by Police Patrol Dies in Hospital

On December 21, 64-year-old Rita Grigoryan, a resident of Yerevan, died in the intensive care unit of Armenia Medical Center. According to shamshyan.com, she had been transferred to the specified medical center following being struck by a vehicle driven by 33-year-old Gurgen Galstyan, a patrol officer from the 2nd platoon of the 3rd battalion of the Yerevan Police Patrol Service, on December 10.

According to the site, under the direction of senior investigator Vardan Babajanyan from the division for investigating road accidents and administrative offenses, a criminal case has been opened under the features of Part 2 of Article 242 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which will be forwarded to the traffic crimes investigation division of the Investigative Committee of Armenia in Yerevan.

As earlier reported by a photojournalist from the scene, on December 10, a pedestrian was struck in Yerevan. Around 19:20, a Skoda vehicle struck a pedestrian crossing the street at an unauthorized location on Melkumov Street. The driver did not flee the scene, called Yerevan's 1-03 emergency services, and assisted in transporting the victim to Armenia Medical Center by the promptly arriving ambulance, after which he reported the incident to the operational management center of the RA Police.
