Is the Government Planning to Dissolve Yerevan State Pedagogical University?

The government is reportedly planning to dissolve Yerevan State Pedagogical University, redistribute its educational resources among existing universities in the country, and sell its building. This information comes from sources within 24News.

To verify the details officially, the news outlet contacted the spokesperson for the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, Gegham Melikbekyan. Initially, he inquired, 'Where did you get this information from, what sources?' and then urged the media to confirm it with their own sources.

Melikbekyan declined to comment on the information regarding the university, refusing to confirm or deny the news. 'When such a decision is made, we will announce it,' he stated. The spokesperson of the Ministry of Education did not provide any information on whether discussions on this topic have taken place, emphasizing, 'If such a decision is made, it will not remain a secret.'

Diana Markosyan, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of Yerevan State Pedagogical University, informed 24News that she is unaware of any plans to dissolve or sell the university and stated that no discussions on this topic have occurred. 'You know, such rumors have been circulating for 10 years, but as you can see, our building is stable, and the university is operational,' she added.

It is worth noting that the chairperson of the board of trustees of Yerevan State Pedagogical University is Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan, who was appointed to this position on November 6 of this year.
