How the Votes Were Distributed: Details from the Voting

The Yerevan City Council voted with 44 votes in favor to express no confidence in Mayor Hayk Marutyan. Ten council members were opposed. Out of 60 council members, 57 participated in the voting, while three votes were deemed invalid.

Among the opposition members, six declared their support for the motion of no confidence against the mayor. Five of them are from the Prosperous Armenia party, and one is Ani Khachatryan from the Bright Armenia faction. Thus, 38 members from the 'My Step' faction voted against Hayk Marutyan. A minimum of 33 votes was required to dismiss the mayor.

It is worth recalling that the campaign against Hayk Marutyan began after an article published on December 12 in the newspaper 'Haykakan Zhamanak', owned by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's family, which accused him of collaborating with the opposition. Following this, the ruling party initiated the process of no confidence against Marutyan.

On December 17, the 'My Step' faction submitted a draft to express no confidence in Mayor Hayk Marutyan. A total of 44 signatures were collected, of which 39 were from members of the 'My Step' faction. An extraordinary session of the Yerevan City Council was convened today, and there was one agenda item: the draft decision regarding the expression of no confidence in Mayor Hayk Marutyan.
