Fall in Love, Marry, Drown – The Sea is Nearby: Tehmine Vardanyan's Speech at the Council Meeting

The most significant issue in this hall, and the most disagreement I have had, is this – but today you all are already talking about Mr. Marutyan as if he is a thing of the past, even though no vote has yet taken place, and no question has been resolved. Yet you congratulate Mr. Sargsyan. This was stated by Tehmine Vardanyan, a member of the Council’s ‘Bright’ faction, during the discussion about expressing no confidence in Yerevan Mayor Haik Marutyan.

“In one week, you have decided this issue, hastily summoned an extraordinary session, and gathered here to express no confidence in your beloved mayor, your Esteemed Haik. What happened, what was the justification behind this? There was no justification for me, other than the fact that he has left your party,” said the council member.

Vardanyan declared that she does not want to participate in this farce in any way and does not even believe in the ruling faction's vote in her heart.

Addressing Haik Marutyan, Vardanyan asked, “Are you black now, or are you white?”

“I want to believe that this arbitrary sentence your former political team interpreted in various situations and is now using against you. Your political team never missed an opportunity to say that there is no game against us. Now friends, there is no game against you, but you continue to act like directives, for me, you remain directives,” Vardanyan declared.

She concluded her speech with a famous quote from a film: “Fall in love, marry, drown – the sea is nearby.”
